India continues to rely heavily on imports for its LPG needs, with nearly 60 percent of supply sourced from international markets. A significant share of these imports typically moves through the Strait of Hormuz, a key global energy shipping route that has seen increased logistical pressure amid regional instability.

To manage domestic availability, supply prioritisation measures have been applied, including adjustments in allocation to commercial users such as hotels and industrial consumers.

Key fuel trends for April 2026:

  • LPG consumption: down 16% year-on-year
  • Aviation turbine fuel (ATF): slight decline
  • Diesel demand: marginal growth slowdown
  • Petrol consumption: continued growth, though at a reduced pace

Despite short-term fluctuations, officials noted that India’s long-term shift toward cleaner fuels has supported sustained LPG usage growth in recent years. However, current global supply constraints have temporarily influenced consumption patterns across the energy sector.
