Income Tax Dept Launches ‘Kar Saathi’ AI Website Ahead of ITR Season to Simplify Filing

A key feature of the website is ‘Kar Saathi’, an AI-powered chatbot developed to assist users with tax-related queries and processes. The tool is expected to provide round-the-clock guidance, helping individuals better understand and manage their tax responsibilities through a more interactive interface.

The initiative is part of a broader effort to modernise tax administration using technology. Officials have indicated that digital services under the new system will be rolled out in phases to ensure a smoother transition.

The Central Board of Direct Taxes has also been working on simplifying the overall framework. As part of this effort, the number of rules has been reduced from 510 to 333, while forms have been brought down from 399 to 190. This rationalisation is expected to ease compliance and reduce the burden on taxpayers.
