Price of the 19-kg cylinder rises by more than Rs 60 in several cities, hitting hotels, restaurants and dhabas
A blow of inflation has hit even before the festive season begins. Prices of commercial LPG cylinders have been increased from 1 October. In several cities, the price of the 19-kg cylinder has gone up by more than Rs 60. The direct impact may fall on hotels, restaurants, dhabas and other businesses that depend heavily on commercial gas. However, households using domestic LPG cylinders have got some relief for now.
In September, the standard price of a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder in Delhi was Rs 2,747.50. From 1 October, it has risen to Rs 2,810, which means Rs 62.50 extra will now have to be paid per cylinder. Earlier, in September too, the price of commercial cylinders in Delhi had been increased by Rs 9.50.
In Mumbai, the price of a commercial cylinder has gone up from Rs 2,701 to Rs 2,764, an increase of Rs 63. In Chennai, the 19-kg cylinder now costs Rs 2,983, compared with Rs 2,916.50 in September. The new price of a commercial cylinder in Ahmedabad is Rs 2,831.50, while in Kanyakumari it is Rs 3,046, and in Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh, it has reached Rs 3,073.50.
Despite the rise in commercial cylinder prices, there has been no change in the price of the 14.2-kg domestic LPG cylinder. Domestic cylinders will continue to be available at Rs 942 in Delhi, Rs 941.50 in Mumbai and Rs 957.50 in Chennai. In Patna, domestic LPG costs Rs 1,031.50, and in Lucknow it is Rs 979.50. This means that, for now, domestic LPG consumers will not be directly affected by this increase.
