IATA is the global trade body for aviation, representing over 370 airlines.

Aviation authorities have launched "Save a Life, Not a Bag" to warn passengers against retrieving luggage during emergencies. Developed by IATA, the European Union Safety Agency, and the Federal Aviation Administration, this initiative addresses the trend of travelers stopping to retrieve personal items or film incidents, which dangerously delays life-saving aircraft exits.

IATA is the global trade body for aviation, representing over 370 airlines. These member airlines represent roughly 85 percent of global air traffic, with key operators including Air India, IndiGo, and SpiceJet. The organization establishes standardized safety procedures and operational protocols that are followed by commercial airlines across the globe.

IATA Senior Vice President Nick Careen emphasized that evacuation urgency cannot be overstated. He warned that if passengers delay their departure by even a few seconds to gather belongings, they jeopardize the safety of everyone on board. Every second is critical for maintaining an orderly and rapid escape for travelers.

Baggage items create physical obstructions during emergencies. Hard-shell bags can puncture inflatable slides and block narrow cabin aisles, preventing others from moving forward. Additionally, luggage can obscure essential exit path lighting, creating chaos for passengers and crew members during critical moments.

To maintain safety, keep documents and medication on your person. This ensures travelers can leave carry-ons behind. Prioritizing movement without baggage ensures passenger survival, allowing crews to manage evacuations efficiently, preventing bottlenecks.
