Free AI Training, No Set-Top Box: Govt Push to Boost India’s Creator Economy
India is sharpening its focus on the growing creator economy with a set of new initiatives aimed at expanding access to technology, skills, and digital platforms. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced three measures designed to strengthen the media and entertainment ecosystem while creating opportunities for young creators.
A key highlight is a national AI skilling programme being rolled out in collaboration with Google and YouTube. Around 15,000 youth are expected to receive free training, equipping them with tools needed for content creation and emerging digital roles.
To support independent creators, a dedicated ‘MyWaves’ portal has been introduced within the government’s OTT platform, offering a space for users to share and promote their work. The move is aimed at encouraging participation from regional and small-town creators, broadening the diversity of India’s digital content landscape.
On the consumer side, the government is also working to simplify television access. New television models with in-built satellite tuners will allow viewers to access DD Free Dish services without requiring a separate set-top box, reducing both cost and complexity.
These steps are part of a wider push to grow India’s “orange economy,” where creativity, culture, and digital innovation drive income and employment opportunities.
