8 in 10 Adults in Delhi-NCR Overweight or Obese, Lifestyle Diseases Surge
Delhi-NCR is seeing a rise in lifestyle-related health conditions, with preventive screenings showing high levels of diabetes, hypertension, anaemia, and obesity among residents. According to a nationwide assessment by Apollo Hospitals, 17 percent of those screened were found to have diabetes, 19 percent had high blood pressure, and 23 percent were diagnosed with anaemia.
The evaluation, which covered over three million participants across multiple cities, highlights the growing impact of urban lifestyles on metabolic health. Poor diet, limited physical activity, and high stress are driving these silent conditions, which often go unnoticed in the early stages.
Among working professionals, roughly eight in ten were found to be overweight or obese. Nearly half were identified as prediabetic or diabetic, and one in four had high blood pressure. In younger populations under 30 years of age, more than half were overweight, with several showing abnormal cholesterol levels and vitamin deficiencies, indicating early onset of lifestyle-related conditions.
These findings underscore the need for targeted interventions and community-level awareness programs to address the growing prevalence of metabolic diseases in urban regions. Preventive health checks and lifestyle management strategies are increasingly important to detect these conditions early and mitigate long-term complications.
