The move, announced as part of the scheme's pilot phase, aims to strengthen youth employability by offering real-world industry exposure.
The Ministry of Corporate Affairs has expanded the eligibility criteria under the Prime Minister Internship Scheme, allowing final-year undergraduate and postgraduate students to apply for paid internships across various industries.
The move, announced as part of the scheme’s pilot phase, aims to strengthen youth employability by offering real-world industry exposure while students are still in education. Officials said the decision aligns with the goals of the National Education Policy, which promotes experiential learning and skill development.
Under the revised rules, eligible students must continue to meet existing conditions and submit a no-objection certificate from their institutions. This certificate can be issued by authorised officials such as principals, deans, heads of departments, or placement officers, ensuring academic commitments are not affected.
Key highlights of the scheme:
- Final-year UG and PG students now eligible
- Paid internships across multiple sectors
- Minimum stipend of Rs 9,000 per month
- Over 300 companies participating in pilot phase
- Open to Indian citizens aged 18–25 years
The government stated that the scheme is designed to bridge the gap between classroom learning and workplace requirements by providing hands-on experience and professional exposure.
Applications can be submitted through the official government portal. Authorities believe the expansion will significantly increase participation and improve job readiness among young graduates in India’s competitive job market.
