No Formal Launch, No Backing — A Career Built Step by Step
Bengali actor Susovan Sonu Roy plays the character ‘Joy’ in the film ‘Take Care Bhalobasa’. The story follows four friends as their relationships shift over time. In the film, Joy remains in the background of many scenes, yet the narrative moves through him. His presence shapes the decisions and emotional responses of the other characters.
Joy is sometimes restrained, sometimes conflicted, and at other moments warm and spontaneous. These small shifts bring range to the film’s emotional tone. The character acts as a quiet bridge between major events, and his reactions directly affect the emotional flow of the scenes around him.
This is Roy’s first work on the big screen. Before cinema, his career moved through dance, television and modelling. He started with Western dance training for nearly two years, performing in stage shows and cultural programmes. Those stage experiences gave him an early comfort in front of an audience.
He later shifted to acting. For about two years, he attended workshops under director Pijush Saha. In 2019, he made his television debut with ‘Anandamoyee Maa’ on Akash Aath, playing a Vaishnav devotee. After that, he appeared in serials such as ‘Mohor’, ‘Korapakhi’, ‘Titli’, ‘Khelaghar’ and ‘Jamuna Dhaki’. His negative role opposite Parno Mitra in ‘Korapakhi’ added a different kind of character to his work.
When the Covid-19 pandemic slowed down television production, Roy turned to modelling. Since 2023, he has worked in ad campaigns for Holiday Inn, Dabur, Velocity Eyewear, Amazon, Big Bazaar, Spencer's and a few other brands.
Roy was born in Howrah and spent part of his childhood in Guwahati. He lost his father at the age of three and a half, after which his mother raised him alone. He later completed a commerce degree from Dum Dum Motijheel Rabindra Mahavidyalaya. In 2025, he also took part in the ‘Ethnic Elegance 2025’ pageant in Kolkata, finishing as the first runner-up.
For his role in ‘Take Care Bhalobasa’, the preparation focused on keeping reactions natural in emotional scenes. The film marks a new phase in his career, moving from television and modelling into cinema — not through a sudden breakthrough, but through a gradual and consistent progression.
