DHARAMSHALA: In a thrilling World Cup encounter against New Zealand, Indian opener Shubman Gill etched his name in the record books by becoming the quickest batsman to amass 2,000 runs in One-Day International (ODI) cricket.

During a crucial World Cup match held in Dharamshala, Shubman Gill achieved the remarkable feat of scoring 2000 ODI runs in just 38 innings. This exceptional achievement saw Gill surpassing the previous record held by South Africa's Hashim Amla, who had accomplished this milestone in 40 innings.

The 24-year-old Gill was merely 14 runs away from the record when he stepped onto the field. With a boundary off the bowling of Trent Boult in the seventh over of the Indian innings, he reached the milestone, marking his name in ODI history. However, Gill's remarkable journey was cut short when he was dismissed after contributing 26 runs from 31 balls in the 14th over.
