Sports Minister Rana Sodhi arrives in Pune, Congratulates Medal winners

Punjab won 2 Gold, 3 Silver & 4 Bronze Medals

Chandigarh, January 19: The players from Punjab participating in the ‘Khelo India Youth Games’ currently underway at Pune were in for a pleasant surprise today when the Sports Minister, Punjab, Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi arrived at the venue to boost their morale. In the events held today, Punjab bagged 2 Gold Medals in Basketball, 1 Silver in Football and 1 Silver and 2 Bronze Medals in Boxing. This takes the medal tally of Punjab to 65 which includes 22 Gold, 18 Silver and 25 Bronze Medals.

In what proved to be a golden day for Punjab in Basketball, U-17 Boys and Girls teams bagged coveted Gold medal. Rana Sodhi personally extended congratulations to both the squads. The minister also congratulated the Silver winning Punjab Football team and medal winning pugilists for their stupendous efforts. The minister, a former shooter of international repute himself, also visited the shooting range where he practiced trap shooting and thus boosted the morale of the state shooters.

Disclosing the results, the State Sports Manager of Punjab in Khelo India Games Mr. Gurlal Singh Riar said that both boys and girls teams of  Punjab won Gold medal in U-17 category beating Rajasthan by 91-78 and Tamilnadu by 76-71 in the finals respectively.

In Basketball U-21 Boys event, Punjab won Silver. In U-17 category Football event, Punjab won Silver while in U-21 category of 64 Kg Boxing Harpreet Kaur won Silver and Mandeep Kaur bagged Bronze in 57 Kg while in 69 Kg Prahladh Singh also won Bronze in Boxing. Archer Amanpreet Kaur won Bronze in the U-21 event in U-17 category.
