Hardayal Singh

In the last couple of days India has lost many a stalwart. We are passing through profound grief. Hardayal Singh joined the Sikh Regiment in 1949 and was assigned to 1 St Battalion The Sikh Regiment. However, he spent almost his entire service with the Sikh Regiment Hockey team, first as a player and later as coach cum manager.

Hardayal Singh played for India at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics as an inside forward and won an Olympics gold medal. Thereafter, he was promoted as JCO and served the Sikh Regimental hockey team till he took premature retirement to tend to his wife. A contemporary of Harbinder Singh (Railways), and Col Haripal Kaushik (He passed away some time ago).he settled in Dehradun.

Hardayal Singh saab coached the Indian team and was awarded "Dhyan Chand Award' for his lifetime contribution to hockey. Today, on 17 Aug 2018 at 2;30 PM Coach, Olympian Gold medalist and Sikh Regimental stalwart breathed his last. Another stalwart moves to the heavens.
