IPL Completed 1,000 Matches; Records of International Cricket Still Unbroken
1,000 Players have played in the IPL So Far
MUMBAI: 1,000 matches have been completed in the 16th season of the world's biggest cricket league IPL (Indian Premiere League). Comparing to this, Around 1,051 international T20 matches have been played between nations.
More than 1,000 players have played in the IPL so far. Meanwhile, 965 players played in the international. Every year top players from around the world create and break many records in the IPL. However, there are some records of international cricket, which have not yet broken in the IPL.
1. Six sixes in an over: 4 times in International Cricket
No batsman has been able to hit six consecutive sixes in one over in IPL. This has happened 4 times at the international level. South Africa's Herschelle Gibbs has achieved this feat in ODIs, India's Yuvraj Singh and West Indies' Kieron Pollard in T20Is. Jaskaran Malhotra of America has also hit six sixes in one over in ODIs.
2. Biggest Score: IPL Runs behind International cricket
The highest score in IPL was scored by Bengaluru against Pune Warriors in 2013. Then Bengaluru scored 263 runs for 5 wickets. A bigger score than this has been made twice in internationals. In 2019, Afghanistan scored 278/3 against Ireland. In that match, Hazratullah Jazai scored 162* runs with the help of 16 sixes.
3. Double Hat-trick: Four times in International cricket
Taking 4 wickets in four consecutive balls is called a double hat-trick. This has happened 4 times in International T20. Sri Lanka's Malinga and Afghanistan's Rashid Khan have achieved this feat in 2019, Ireland's Kurtis Kampfer in 2021 and Jason Holder in 2022. This record has not been broken in IPL yet.
4. Fastest Half-Century: Yuvraj broke 16-year-old Record
In T20 World Cup 2007, Yuvraj hit six sixes in one over against England. He made a world record by completing his half century in 12 balls. This record has not been broken in International or IPL. KL Rahul holds the record for the fastest fifty in IPL (14 balls). Apart from Yuvraj, Austria's Mirza Hasan has scored fifty in 13 balls in 2019.
5. Economical Bowling: 6 wickets for less than 10 runs
Bowlers took 6 wickets within 10 runs four times in International T20. India's Deepak Chahar has taken 6 wickets for 7 runs in Test cricket. Mumbai Indians' Alzarri Joseph holds the record for most economical bowling in IPL. He took 6 wickets for 12 runs in his first match against Hyderabad in IPL 2019.
