DC Thrashes RCB by 6 Wickets

MUMBAI: Delhi Capitals thrashed Royal Challengers Bangalore by six wickets on Monday (March 13)  in the Women’s Premier League match at Dr DY Patil Sports Academy, Navi Mumbai. This is RCB’s fifth defeat in the league. Royal Challengers Bangalore scored a total 150 for four, giving the RCB a target to chase. DC chased the score in just 19.4 overs.

Till now, Delhi Capitals have played total five games. They have won four games, lost one. Royal Challengers Bangalore Women, meanwhile, are literally struggling in the league as they are yet to win a single game.

KEY MOMENTS.....

In the opening of the match, Mel Jones and Stacy Ann-King described about the pitch of the ground as it is firm and it has a nice coverage of grass as well. It brings the seamers into play and Kapp bowled superbly on this. Batters will need to apply themselves, spending time will be important.

Delhi Capitals Women had won the toss in the match and opted to field at first. Marizanne Kapp opened the game with a perfect over as she has set a tone for DC by bowling a maiden first over. Kapp returned for the third over and continues to trouble Smriti Mandhana. Sophie Devine smashed boundaries to give pressure to another team. Ellyse Perry started with a boundary after walking in to bat at 3 for RCB. Powerplay comes to an end with just 1 run. After this, Skipper Lanning calls in her bowler Tara Norris for the eight over. RCB batters could only manage to take two singles off her over.

After Richa Ghosh's wicket in the 18th over, Ellyse Perry continues to score huge for the team. Last over was completed with her Sixes. RCB ended their innings with 150 runs. Delhi capitals needed 151 runs to win in the match.

Notably, in their innings, Alice Capsey performed brilliantly with 24-ball 38 after the early loss of Shafali Verma, while Jemimah Rodrigues in with 32 in 28 deliveries. Jess Jonassen slammed 29 in 15 balls. Renuka Singh Thakur for the last over is smacked for a six to deep mid-wicket and a four to long-off by Jess Jonassesn.

RCB Captain Smriti Mandhana said, "Really good effort by the bowlers to take it till the 20th over. Lots of improvements but lots to work on still. Perry and Ghosh partnership brought us back into the game. They both used their experience to get us to a defendable total. It gave momentum back to us. It was not the best of starts, including my batting. That first 14 overs did really hurt us. 10-15 runs more there would have helped."

Delhi Capitals captain Jemimah Rodrigues said, "These are the matches we live for. I think it is very important for us to be tested that's when our character is tested. It's good that we are getting matches like this in the league stages. It helps us prepare for the finals. One bad game doesn't define us, our team has been fielding well, it can happen in cricket sometimes."
