The Supreme Court on Wednesday cancelled former Indian wrestler and two-time Olympic medalist Sushil Kumar’s bail in the murder case of junior wrestler Sagar Dhankhar, IANS reported.
According to a report by The Times of India, the Supreme Court has cancelled the bail granted to the athlete.

The top court has also ordered him to surrender within a week. Sushil was granted bail by the Delhi High Court on March 4, earlier this year.

Sagar was killed in May 2021 after a brutal beating by Sushil Kumar at Delhi's Chhatrasal Stadium.
A bench of justices Sanjay Karol and Prashant Kumar Mishra on Wednesday quashed the Delhi High Court’s order that had allowed Sushil Kumar’s release.

According to the TOI report, Sushil Kumar, along with some others, is accused of attacking Sagar Dhankhar, a junior national wrestling champion. Two of Dhankhar’s friends were also injured in the incident.

Report noted that the post-mortem examinations revealed that the victim had died of cerebral damage resulting from the impact of a blunt object.

Delhi High Court had granted bail, noting that in three years, ever since the trial began, only 30 out of 186 prosecution witnesses had been examined.

According to Sagar’s father, reported by IANS, the witnesses and his family faced pressure to compromise.
