Rishabh Pant ruled out of ODI series, Dhruv Jurel named replacement; Here's Why

Wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant has been ruled out of the One Day International (ODI) series after he suffered sudden discomfort in his body during a practice session on Saturday, the BCCI said.

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), in a statement issued on Sunday,  said that Pant felt sudden discomfort in his right lateral abdominal area while batting in the nets during India’s practice session on Saturday afternoon at the BCA Stadium, Vadodara.

He was immediately taken for MRI scans.  BCCI added that its medical team had a detailed discussion with an expert on Pant’s clinical and radiological findings.

Pant has been diagnosed with a side strain (Oblique Muscle Tear) and has subsequently been ruled out of the ODI Series.

The Men’s Selection Committee has named Dhruv Jurel as Pant’s replacement, and Jurel has linked up with the squad, it added.

India's updated ODI squad includes: Shubman Gill (C), Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul (WK), Shreyas lyer (VC), Washington Sundar, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohd Siraj, Harshit Rana, Prasidh Krishna, Kuldeep Yadav, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Arshdeep Singh, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Dhruv Jurel (WK).
