Who is Indian Wrestler Reetika Hooda? As the Paris Olympics 2024 draws near to an end, all eyes are on Reetika Hooda who is considered as India's last medal hope at the Paris Olympics 2024. Reetika is all set to play her first bout against Hungary's Bernadett Nagy, a two-time European Championship medallist who is currently ranked 16th in the world.
Before the Paris Olympics 2024, Reetika was not considered a prime medal contender but the same was being considered before the 2023 U-23 World Wrestling Championships wherein she bagged the gold medal and proved herself.
In the 2023 U-23 World Wrestling Championships, her quarter-final and semi-final opponents were Rita Talismanova and Anastasiya Alpyeyeva, respectively, both ranked among the top 10. Her final opponent was Kennedy Blades, who also ranked much higher comparatively. Yet she defeated all of them and bagged the Gold medal, becoming the first Indian to win a U-23 World Championships Gold.
Besides, she is also a bronze medalist in Asian Championships.
Hailing from Haryana’s Kharkda village, Reetika Hoods always wanted to pursue sports, but not wrestling. It entered her life at the insistence of her father, Jagbir Hooda.
