World Chess Champion Gukesh defeated by Hikaru latest news: In the Norway Chess 2025 tournament, World Champion D. Gukesh was defeated by World No. 2 Hikaru Nakamura. On Tuesday, in the 8th round, Nakamura took advantage of a mistake by Gukesh and won the game, which was otherwise heading for a draw.
Earlier, Gukesh had registered two consecutive wins — first defeating Magnus Carlsen, and then beating Arjun Erigaisi.
Gukesh Slips to Fourth Position
After this defeat, Gukesh has slipped to fourth place in the points table. After the 8th round, he has 11.5 points.
American Grandmaster Fabiano Caruana, with 12.5 points, is on top, followed by Norway’s reigning champion Magnus Carlsen with 12 points.
Hikaru Nakamura, who defeated Gukesh, is in third position with 11.5 points.
