'Rohit Sharma's Unfit', Congress leader Shama Mohamed stirs row
Congress leader Pawan Khera informed that the party had requested Dr. Mohamed to remove her posts.
Congress leader Shama Mohamed on Rohit Sharma fitness latest news: Congress leader Dr. Shama Mohamed was criticized after her controversial X post slamming Indian cricket captain Rohit Sharma's fitness.
In her tweet, she called Sharma "overweight" and questioned his sportspersonship. The tweet received severe criticism from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and cricket fans all over the country.
Subsequent to the outrage, Congress leader Pawan Khera informed that the party had requested Dr. Mohamed to remove her posts. He explained the post was not the party's line and asked her to be more careful next time.
Justifying her remarks, Dr. Mohamed informed that she made the post in a "generic way" and never intended body-shaming Rohit Sharma. She underscored that she thinks sportsmen should be in shape and that her statements were all about being in shape.
"It was a general tweet about the physical fitness of an athlete. It was not body-shaming. I always felt that an athlete should be physically fit, and I felt that he was a bit fat, so I just tweeted on that.
I have been attacked without any reason. When I made a comparison with former captains, I inserted a statement. I have the right. What's wrong in speaking? It is a democracy," she said to news agency ANI.
Even after removing the posts, Dr. Mohamed was unapologetic and insisted on her right to have an opinion in a democracy. The incident has created a controversy on social media regarding the propriety of her remarks and the general issue of body-shaming in sports.
