ATHENS: During his visit to Greece, Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged with the Non-Resident Indian (NRI) community residing in Athens on Friday. In his address, he underscored India's historical role in uniting the world and commended the pivotal contributions of the Sikh Gurus towards this end.
Highlighting India's recent achievements on the global stage, Prime Minister Modi lauded the nation's display of scientific prowess by successfully landing tricolor on the lunar surface. He emphasized that India's advancements in science, technology, and innovation have gained international recognition, marking a dynamic presence on the global landscape.
Referencing the deep-rooted historical connections between Greece and India dating back to the Mauryan Empire in the fourth century BC, Modi urged the Indian diaspora in Greece to actively contribute to enhancing the bilateral relations between the two countries. He called upon them to participate wholeheartedly in India's journey of development, while encouraging Greece to be an integral part of this progress.
Prime Minister Modi shared, "Each civilization and culture bears a distinct identity. India's identity has been centered around fostering global connections, a spirit that was notably exemplified by our Gurus. Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, during his 'Udasis', journeyed the world with the intent of connecting humanity and doing good for it. Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji's teachings of 'Nanak Naam Chardi Kala' - well-being for all, resonates today just as it did then."
Praising the resilience and dedication of the Indian diaspora during the COVID-19 pandemic, PM Modi acknowledged their integral role in maintaining the supply chain of essential medicines worldwide. He proudly noted that the 'Made in India' COVID-19 vaccines have significantly contributed to saving countless lives globally. He commended the exemplary efforts of Sikh youths in particular, highlighting their humanitarian contributions during challenging times.
Prime Minister Modi expressed his optimism that the collaboration between the two nations would lead to smoother travel, trade, and commerce. As he outlined India's achievements in various sectors over the past nine years, he emphasized that India is striving to strengthen all areas of development, ranging from infrastructure to technology.
With a focus on fostering unity and global harmony, Modi conveyed India's commitment as the host of the upcoming G-20 summit, which will be themed around 'Vasudaiva Kutumbakam', signifying the interconnectedness of the world.
The Prime Minister assured NRIs that India consistently prioritizes the safety and well-being of its citizens, even during international conflicts or crises. He reiterated the Indian government's commitment to ensuring the security and welfare of every individual with ties to the nation.
