Talwinder Kaur makes history by becoming Deputy Mayor of Rural City Council in Australia

Moga: Talwinder Kaur, of Punjabi origin from the city of Ararat in Victoria, Australia, has been elected as the Deputy Mayor of the Ararat Rural City Council. She has become the first-ever Punjabi woman to reach this position in the history of the state.

Talwinder Kaur, who won the election as a councillor last year, achieved this milestone within just one year based on her service and dedication. During the Ararat Council meeting, Bob Sanders was elected Mayor, and Talwinder Kaur was unanimously chosen as Deputy Mayor.

After being appointed Deputy Mayor, Talwinder Kaur expressed her gratitude to her fellow councillors and the residents. 
She stated that, as Deputy Mayor, she would be fully dedicated to serving the people and working hard for the development of Ararat. Talwinder Kaur hails from the village of Kokri Kalan in the Moga district of Punjab. 

She comes from a humble farming family, and her in-laws reside in the village of Khanpur, Fatehgarh Sahib. She moved to Australia in 2008 with her husband, Karamvir Singh, and completed her studies at Federation University in Ballarat.

Talwinder Kaur emphasized that the role of Deputy Mayor is not only an honor but also a significant responsibility, and she is committed to working diligently to fulfill it.
