46-Year-Old Satyen Naik Succumbs to Gunshot Wounds; Alleged Attacker Takes Own Life
Indian-Origin Business Man Death in USA: In a shocking incident, a 46-year-old Indian-origin motel owner, Satyen Naik, was fatally shot in Newport, North Carolina. The tragedy unfolded when the alleged attacker, identified as Troy Kellam, not only shot Naik but also took his own life, leaving the community in grief and disbelief.
Newport Police Chief Keith Lewis provided details of the incident, revealing that the police responded to a call around 10 p.m. reporting an attempted break-in at the hostess house owned by Naik. Lewis stated, "There was a commotion in the background, and shortly after that, another call came in that a person had been shot."
Upon arriving at the scene, emergency personnel discovered Satyen Naik inside the motel, critically injured with gunshot wounds. Despite immediate efforts to save him, Naik was later pronounced dead at Carteret Health Care.
The situation took an even more tragic turn when the suspected attacker, Troy Kellam (59), was found locked in a room within the hostess's home. Chief Lewis explained, "It was suspected that he had locked himself in the room, after which we informed the Special Response Team (SRT) and sought help to rescue the person locked in the room."
Efforts were made to persuade Kellam to surrender peacefully, but he adamantly refused, ultimately taking his own life with a self-inflicted gunshot. Lewis disclosed that Kellam, described as homeless, had been residing in hostess houses and other nearby locations.
The Newport community is now grappling with the aftermath of this tragic incident, as authorities work to piece together the events leading to the untimely demise of Satyen Naik. The shocking nature of the incident underscores the need for continued efforts to address issues surrounding public safety and mental health.
