"Justin Trudeau Has Let You Down": Jagmeet Singh Criticizes Liberals and Conservatives Alike
Jagmeet Singh also reiterated the NDP’s commitment to opposing Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre's proposed cuts to public services
Justin Trudeau Resignation Latest News Today: New Democratic Party (NDP) leader Jagmeet Singh has openly criticized Prime Minister Justin Trudeau following his announcement to step down as the Liberal Party leader and Prime Minister. Singh accused Trudeau and the Liberal Party of failing Canadians on critical issues such as housing, healthcare, and the rising cost of living.
Speaking to the media and in a statement shared on social media platform X, Singh said, "Justin Trudeau has let you down, over and over. He let you down on the cost of housing and groceries. He let you down on fixing healthcare. It doesn’t matter who leads the Liberals. They don’t deserve another chance."
Singh also criticized the Conservative Party, accusing it of favoring corporate interests. He urged Canadians to back the NDP, promising a government that prioritizes the needs of ordinary people.
Addressing concerns over Parliament’s prorogation until March 2025, Singh called the Liberal Party's actions unacceptable. "The Liberals are shutting down Parliament instead of addressing Canadians’ needs. If someone failed to show up to work, they’d get fired. That’s exactly what should happen to the Liberals," Singh asserted.
Singh also reiterated the NDP’s commitment to opposing Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre's proposed cuts to public services such as pensions, healthcare, and dental care. "The Conservatives want to take away the very programs Canadians rely on. If you oppose these cuts, stand with the NDP. We will fight for the working and middle class, bring down grocery costs, and make housing more affordable," he said.
Singh confirmed that the NDP will vote against the Liberal government at upcoming confidence votes, advocating for an election to allow Canadians to make a choice.
In September 2024, Singh’s NDP withdrew its support for the minority Liberal government, citing Trudeau’s failure to address corporate greed and the struggles of Canadians. This decision, made a year ahead of the scheduled general elections, left Trudeau’s government vulnerable.
