Diwali Special Article 2025: “Even if countless lamps are lit, the darkness still keeps growing": Diwali means ‘with lamps’, which is a combination of two words. Many historians are of the opinion that in ancient times, people used to celebrate their great happiness by beating drums and drums to convey their happiness to the people, but when a person of high status achieved success, ghee lamps were lit, whereas in the modern era, all this has changed. Nowadays, the festival of Diwali is celebrated with crackers and expensive lights.

Warish Shah has also described this in a verse of his Kissa Heer in 1745, “The gods stole ghee lamps, Warish Shah came if he saw them.”

According to Hindu history, on this day, Lord Ram Chandra reached Ayodhya after spending 14 years in exile and killing the Lankapati king Ravana in war. As a mark of this happiness, people lit lamps on their houses. According to this myth, Dussehra was celebrated 20 days ago. It is also said that from the history behind Diwali, we get the lesson of staying away from arrogance and evil, but in our present society, those arrogant people of religious and casteist fanaticism oppress the poor and those who burst huge crackers with poisonous smoke and loud noise, causing restlessness, respiratory and skin diseases for many patients and many rich people spend a lot of money but argue with a poor person while paying him wages. Many people drink alcohol and fight and spread unrest in the society.

What is the importance of this principle of Diwali for them? Although this festival is called the victory of good over evil, but according to the current situation, on the occasion of Diwali, many big politicians and big officials take advantage of their compulsion by giving priority to receiving valuable gifts from their subordinates (small leaders, employees and the needy). We also hear that Diwali is celebrated in villages and cities, but Diwali is earned or made in offices.

According to statistics, 13.7% of the population of our country is a victim of hunger, that is, more than 20 crore people sleep hungry every night, there are more than 4 lakh beggars and more than 50 thousand beggars in Delhi alone. Here, hundreds of tons of grain are stored in godowns, in the stores of panchayats, which are meant to be distributed to the poor, and due to improper storage, it rots. Then this same wheat is distributed to the poor through depots. Similarly, thousands of sacks of grain are destroyed due to the connivance of the concerned employees from the godowns, which also affects the poor.
It is also worth considering here that the children of the extremely poor and slums yearn for the joys of Diwali.

Doesn't this scene reflect that the big claims made by our leaders about development, poverty eradication and clean India are less true and more false because India ranks 105th in hunger among 127 countries in the world and 25% of the world's total hunger-stricken population is in India alone. Fed up with this poverty and hunger, many go astray and many commit suicide. But our leaders are intoxicated, about whom we can say, 'There is a fault in my heart but I love you, these are the people who do this business.'

Now, seeing all this, how can we call Diwali a symbol of the victory of good over evil? It can be called the victory of good over evil. Now, the question will also be asked here that although lamps are lit every year, why is the darkness not extinguished? It is worth mentioning that in a Diwali in which, instead of spreading true knowledge, mutual equality and justice in our society, the darkness of ego, capitalism, poverty, corruption and superstition is being spread among the people, and pollution is spread through wasteful spending of lakhs and crores of rupees and poisonous firecrackers, which cause huge damage by causing fire in many places, and in our society, ignorance, illiteracy, the gap between rich and poor is increasing day by day, and the darkness of crimes like unemployment, rape, looting, hooliganism is increasing day by day, then it is natural to say that 'If lamps are lit every year, why does the darkness continue to increase?'

If we think about it, real light can be spread with the lamps of mutual equality and harmony, justice and knowledge. Rich people can brighten the lives of slum dwellers and other extremely poor children by giving them some food or other items on the occasion of Diwali, because this is the real puja. Similarly, poor artisans sell their handmade lamps, lanterns and other items on the roadside, instead of buying expensive items and lights, we should buy items from these poor people. Also remember: “Even if the lamps are lit, even if the sun is shining, but the happiness of the poor has not dawned yet.”

Of course, a few days before Diwali, people clean and paint their houses, which is a symbol of cleanliness, and making each other happy is also a message of mutual understanding, but still some people celebrate their happiness in the wrong way by playing DJs loudly until late at night and bursting crackers in the common streets, creating problems for those passing by. Sweet sellers also harm people's health by selling adulterated goods. Every year, hundreds of samples of milk, paneer, khoya and ghee are taken by medical teams and many fail. According to a recent news, two and a half quintals of fake paneer were seized in Patiala, which is a huge corruption and a big game with people's lives, see what happens now?

Of course, our government bans the storage of illegal firecrackers and like every year, this time the Punjab government has ordered to burst only green firecrackers from 8 to 10 pm, leaving big firecrackers behind, but due to lack of strictness and people's negligence, the right results will not come.
