Islamabad: The Pakistan Supreme Court on Friday disqualified Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in the Panama Papers case. The five-member bench pronounced the verdict in an unanimous decision. Reports had earlier said that if convicted, Sharif may step down and his PML-N may install his brother Shahbaz Sharif as the ‘dummy PM’.
The Panama Papers case
The Pakistani Supreme Court had set up the Joint Investigation Team after Sharif was named in the Panama Papers leak in 2016. The leaked documents from Panamanian law firm Mossack Fonseca had revealed that three of his children owned offshore companies and undisclosed assets, including four expensive flats in Park Lane, London.
