Indian-Origin Daniel Mukhe Takes Oath as Finance Minister of New South Wales

SYDNEY: Indian-origin Daniel Mukhe has become the first politician to become the treasurer of any state in Australia. He was sworn in as the treasurer of the Australian state of New South Wales on Tuesday. He took the oath of allegiance to the holy Bhagavad Gita. According to Australian media, Daniel Mukhe was sworn in along with New South Wales (NSW) Premier Chris Min and six other ministers.

In his statement, Daniel expressed gratitude to the people of NSW. He said, "I am the first Australian minister to take the oath of allegiance on the Bhagavad Gita. This is only possible because Australia is an open-minded country and welcomes the contributions of people like my parents. When I was taking oath today, many such things were going on in my mind."

Notably, in 2015 Mukhe was elected by the Labor Party to the Upper House of New South Wales, replacing Steve Vaughan. Mukhe is the first leader of Indian background in New South Wales. He is also the first Australian to take the oath of allegiance on the Bhagavad Gita. He was later made Shadow Minister for Finance and Small Business and Shadow Minister for the Gig Economy in 2019. It is worth mentioning here that Daniel Mukhe's parents settled in Australia from Punjab in 1973. Daniel Mookhe was born in Blacktown.
