Trump Freezes $50 Million for Condoms in Gaza
DOGE and OMB found that nearly $50 million was about to be spent on condoms in Gaza. That's a ridiculous waste of taxpayer money.
Trump Freezes $50 Million for Condoms in Gaza latest news: In a surprising move, US President Donald Trump has stopped $50 million in funding that was supposed to be used for condoms in Gaza. This announcement was made by US Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt during her first press briefing on Tuesday.
Leavitt explained that the US Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) found out about this funding. She called it "preposterous" and said the government wants to use American taxpayer money wisely.
"DOGE and OMB found that nearly $50 million was about to be spent on condoms in Gaza. That's a ridiculous waste of taxpayer money. This pause is about being good stewards of tax dollars, Leavitt said.
Elon Musk, the leader of DOGE, also criticized the funding. He suggested that the money might have gone to Hamas instead of being used for condoms. He added, "Even if the money was used for condoms, we should not be spending US taxpayer money on condoms for foreigners."
During the same briefing, Leavitt was asked about Trump's decision to re-arrange the Houthis as a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO). She agreed that the Houthis had attacked US naval ships and supported the decision to call them terrorists again. She also said that investigating why the previous administration removed the Houthis from the FTO list might be a good idea.
On January 22, Trump signed an Executive Order to re-designate Ansar Allah, also known as the Houthis, as a Foreign Terrorist Organization. This move reverses the Biden administration's decision to remove the Houthis from the FTO list in January 2021. The Executive Order aims to stop the Houthis from strengthening their financial network and reduce their capacity for violence.
