ALOSI: At least 7 people have died and several houses have been destroyed in a landslide at central Ecuador. Authorities had previously recorded the death toll at 16, but President Guillermo Lasso confirmed the death toll at seven.

Authorities visited the crash site in Alousi, about 137 miles south of the capital, Quito, on Monday night, stated reports. Officials have reported about 50 people missing.

Ecuador's risk management secretariat said more than 30 people were rescued after a landslide hit the side of the mountain around 10:00 pm on Sunday. He said that 23 people have been injured. The secretariat said that about 500 people and 163 houses have been affected due to this disaster. Notably, Relief and rescue operations are ongoing. Rescue workers searched for people trapped in the rubble with the help of dogs. According to media reports, in some areas, most of the houses have been completely buried under the earth.
