New Delhi, April 24, 2025 (ANI): As global condemnation poured in over the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 28 people, mostly tourists, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney called it a “senseless and shocking act of violence.” In a post on X, Carney expressed condolences to the victims’ families and strongly condemned the attack.
“I am horrified by the terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir, a senseless and shocking act of violence that has killed and injured innocent civilians and tourists. Canada strongly condemns this terrorist attack. We offer our condolences to the victims and their families"

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun also condemned the attack during a press briefing, stating China "firmly opposes all forms of terrorism" and extended sympathies to the bereaved families.
When the spokesperson was asked about the attack in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday, he responded, "China noted the reports. We strongly condemn the attack. China firmly opposes all forms of terrorism. We mourn for the lives lost and express sincere sympathies to the bereaved families and the injured."

Meanwhile, the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, convened a high-level meeting on Wednesday to assess the security situation. The CCS condemned the attack in the strongest terms and pledged justice for the victims. It also highlighted the extradition of Tahawwur Rana as a symbol of India’s tough stance on terrorism, the ANI reported.

In response to the attack, the Indian government announced a series of diplomatic and security measures:

The Indus Waters Treaty of 1960 with Pakistan is suspended until Pakistan stops cross-border terrorism.
The Attari Integrated Check Post is closed with immediate effect.Pakistani nationals are barred from travelling to India under the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme, and any existing SVES visas are cancelled. Pakistani nationals in India under the scheme must leave within 48 hours.
The Defence, Naval, and Air Advisors at the Pakistani High Commission in Delhi have been declared persona non grata and must leave within a week.
India will withdraw its corresponding military advisors from Islamabad.
Both countries will reduce their High Commission staff strength from 55 to 30 by May 1, 2025.

The CCS reaffirmed India’s resolve to hold those responsible—and their sponsors—accountable.
