Fact Check Report

MOHALI: A Picture of a list is going viral on social media having claim written "17 Indians have been kidnapped by HAMAS on Saturday in Israel.Out of this 10 are killed OR executed."

X account Sushil Dwivedi shared the list and wrote, "As per sources 17 Indians have been kidnapped by HAMAS on Saturday in Israel.Out of this 10 are killed OR executed. No one from I.N.D.I.A. alliance has guts to give a statement on these kidnapped Indians. They support students of AMU who came out in support of HAMAS with a March."

Spokesman found the viral claim to be misleading. Read our Fact Check Report:

By starting our investigation, we performed Google Reverse Image search on the picture.

We found a tweet of Indian journalist Aditya Raj Kaul having this list with a caption claiming, "#BREAKING: Nepal Government confirms that Hamas Islamist terrorists have killed 10 Nepali Hindu citizens in terror attacks yesterday in Southern Israel. Four other Nepali citizens are wounded. One Nepali citizen remains missing."

Keeping this information in mind, we performed news search on Google and found lot of news articles regarding the mishap.

Renowned Media Organisation 'The Hindu' covered the story and wrote, "Ten Nepali students have been killed and four others injured in Israel after the Palestinian militant group Hamas launched a wave of rocket attacks in the country's southern region, Nepal's Foreign Ministry said on October 9."

Reuters on the mishap wrote, "Nepal said on Monday at least 10 of its nationals were killed in Israel after the attack by Palestinian group Hamas, and the cabinet will hold an emergency meeting to discuss how to evacuate thousands of others working and studying there."

Giving the latest update on 17 October 2023, All India Radio News wrote, "Israel has handed over five bodies of the ten Nepali students killed in the Hamas-Israel war, to the Nepal Embassy in Tel Aviv. The process of bringing back the bodies is in progress. The information was given by the Nepal's Embassy in Israel to its government. Nepal's Minister for Foreign Affairs N P Saud talked to his Israeli counterpart in this connection. Nepal is using airports in Israel, Lebanon and Turkey to bring its citizens back from the war-torn region."

Hence, it is clear that viral claim is misleading.

Conclusion: Spokesman in it's investigation, found the claim to be misleading. This list is of Nepali citizens who had been killed in ongoing Palestine-Israel conflict.
