In a shocking incident, a knife-armed individual from the United States attempted to hijack a small Tropic Air plane in Belize, a small country located on the eastern coast of Central America, ANI reported citing the New York Post. The incident occurred on Thursday (local time).
The hijack attempt left three people injured. The 49-year-old attacker was later shot dead by a fellow passenger, the report said.
The incident reportedly took place mid-air during a flight bound for San Pedro, when the assailant began attacking passengers with a knife. He was later identified as Akinyela Sawa Taylor, a U.S. citizen, according to Belize Commissioner of Police Chester Williams.
Commissioner Williams praised the passenger who fatally shot the attacker, potentially preventing further harm. Authorities are still investigating how Taylor managed to bring a knife on board the flight.
