From Abraham Lincoln to Donald Trump: Know history of shootings in US Presidential politics
US Presidential elections have seen several incidents when such attacks took place.
Abraham Lincoln to Donald Trump Attack, History of shooting US Presidential politics: In a shocking attack on former US President Donald Trump, gunshots were fired at him during a rally speech. The investigators have been treating the incident as a possible assassination attempt on the former President.
This is not the first time that the US has witnessed an attack ahead of the US Presidential elections because there have been several incidents when such attacks took place.
Ronald Reagon (1981)
The then US President Reagan was shot and seriously injured while he was leaving an event at the Hilton hotel in Washington. The attacker was identified as John Hinckley Jr, who was later granted unconditional release in 2022.
Gerald Ford (1975)
The then US President Gerald Ford was left unconscious in two separate assassination attempts by women in September 1975. Both attempts were held in California and within 17 days.
George Wallace (1972)
Wallace was shot four times that led to paralysis for life at a shopping mall in Laurel, Maryland. He was campaigning for the Democratic presidential nomination when he was shot.
Robert F Kennedy (1968)
President John F. Kennedy’s brother Robert was running for the Democratic presidential nomination. He was shot and killed at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles, California.
John F. Kennedy (1963)
John F. Kennedy was riding in his motorcade with his wife Jackie when he was assassinated in Dallas, Texas by Lee Harvey Oswald.
Franklin D. Roosevelt (1933)
As president-elect, Franklin D. Roosevelt was also a target of an assassination attempt in Miami, Florida. Fortunately, he was unharmed, but Chicago Mayor Anton Cermak was killed in the attack.
Theodore Roosevelt (1912)
Just like Donald Trump, Theodore Roosevelt was running for the White House as a former President when he was shot in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
William McKinley (1901)
The then President McKinley was shot and killed by anarchist Leon Czolgosz in Buffalo, New York.
Abraham Lincoln (1865)
Abraham Lincoln was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth while watching a play called “Our American Cousin” at Ford’s Theater in Washington.
