Ram Chandra Poudel Takes Oath as Nepal President

KATHMANDU: Senior Nepali Congress leader Ram Chandra Poudel was sworn in as the President of Nepal on Monday (March 13). Nepal's Acting Chief Justice Hari Krishna Karki administered the oath of office and secrecy to Poudel (78) at a special ceremony held at the President's official residence, Sheetal Niwas in Kathmandu.

On this occasion, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Speaker Dev Raj Ghimire, Speaker of the National Assembly Ganesh Prasad Timilsina and other senior government officials were also present.

Senior Nepali Congress leader Poudel was elected the country's president on Thursday defeating Subhash Chandra Nembang of the Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Marxist Leninist (CPN-UML). Notably, This was the third presidential election since the country was declared a republic in 2008. The term of former President of Nepal Bidya Devi Bhandari has ended on March 12.
