LOS ANGELES: American-Canadian Actor Brendan Fraser won the Best Actor Oscar award for ‘The Whale’ at the 95th Academy Awards in Los Angeles. Michelle Yeoh have bagged the Oscar for Best Best Actress at the Academy Awards. Yeoh won the Oscar for her role in 'Everything Everywhere All at Once'.
Notably, Fraser portrayed the role of a love-lorn, morbidly obese english teacher in Darren Aronofsky's psychological drama 'The Whale' who is trying to salvage his relationship with his estranged daughter. Fraser defeated Austin Butler (Elvis), Colin Farrell (The Banshees of Inisherin), Paul Mescal (Aftersun) and Bill Nighy (Living) to clinch the trophy. Yeoh beat Cate Blanchett (Tár), Ana de Armas (Blonde), Andrea Riseborough (To Leslie), Michelle Williams (The Fabelmans).
Reportedly, While addressing at the Academy awards stage, Brendan Fraser said, "So this is what the multiverse looks like! I’m grateful to Darren Aronofsky for throwing me a creative lifeline and hauling me aboard the good ship 'The Whale'. That was written by Samuel D. Hunter who is our lighthouse. Gentleman, you laid your whale-sized hearts bare so that we could see into your souls like no one else could do. It is my honor to be named alongside you in this category. I want to tell you that only whale’s can swim at the depth of talent of Hong Chau."
He further said, "I started in this business 30 years ago, things didn’t come easy to me but there was a facility that I didn’t appreciate at the time, until it stopped. I just want to say thank you for this acknowledgement. It couldn’t be done without my cast. It’s been like I’ve been on a diving expedition and the air on the line to the surface is being watched over by some people in my life like my sons."
It is worth noting here that Fraser has also won a 'Critics' Choice Movie Award', 'Screen Actors Guild Award' and 'Hollywood Critics Association Award' this year for his amazing performance in 'The Whale'.
Notably, 'The Mummy franchise' star, Fraser made a spectacular comeback in the film 'The Whale' through his character named Charlie who is a middle-aged obese man (600 pounds). Charlie gained the weight after guilt-ridden binge-eating for leaving his family for his gay lover. His co-stars in the movie are Sadie Sink, Hong Chau, and Ty Simpkins, among others.
