Zelenskyy Announces Upcoming Peace Talks Between US and Ukraine in Saudi Arabia Amid Ongoing Conflict latest news: On Saturday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that American and Ukrainian authorities will sit down in Saudi Arabia this coming week to discuss peace negotiations as the war between Ukraine and Russia rages on.
Zelenskyy also disclosed that there has been a meeting of the diplomatic groups of the UK and Ukraine to address actions toward peace.
On X, in a tweet, Zelenskyy appreciated the UK support and said, "Today, a very productive meeting was held in Kyiv between the Ukrainian and British diplomatic teams.
We talked about our common steps that could lead us closer to peace and speed up diplomatic efforts. I appreciate the support. Ukraine is committed to doing everything to finish this war with a just and lasting peace as soon as possible."
Earlier, Zelenskyy had strong words of appreciation for the solidarity Ukraine had been given at a European leaders' summit in London on March 2, when Ukraine's future and its position vis-a-vis Europe were at the center. Zelenskyy, on his recent trip to the UK, spoke with UK PM Keir Starmer about Ukraine's and Europe's challenges, and working towards a fair peace with robust security assurances.
The UK and Ukraine signed a 100-year cooperation agreement earlier this year, which invoked Ukraine's recovery and pledged to drive technological innovation as well as work on many other aspects.
Zelenskyy also announced that next week he will travel to Saudi Arabia, where he will have a meeting with the Crown Prince on Monday and then with the American team on Tuesday.
The Ukrainian squad will consist of Andriy Yermak, Andriy Sybiha, Rustem Umerov, and Pavlo Palisa. Zelenskyy highlighted Ukraine's dedication to constructive dialogue, saying, "On our side, we are completely committed to constructive dialogue, and we hope to negotiate and agree on the necessary decisions and steps.
Ukraine has been trying to achieve peace from the very first second of this war. Realistic proposals are on the table. The key is to act quickly and effectively."
US ambassador Steve Witkoff had confirmed that he would sit down with Ukrainian officials in Saudi Arabia to negotiate an "initial ceasefire" and a "framework" for a longer deal. The two sides will meet in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed.
This gathering will be the initial high-level meeting of US and Ukrainian leaders following the February 28 meeting between Trump and Zelenskyy. The world anxiously waits with hope as these talks seek to put an end to the current conflict and open doors to enduring peace.
