Trump Calls for De-escalation Amid Escalating India-Pakistan Tensions

Trump Calls for De-escalation Amid Escalating India-Pakistan Tensions latest news: U.S. President Donald Trump has voiced concern at the mounting tensions between India and Pakistan after India launched retaliatory strikes on terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK). Addressing the White House on Wednesday, Trump said he hopes the two nations will resolve the crisis and offered to help de-escalate tensions.

The tensions are a result of the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which killed 26 people. In retaliation, India initiated Operation Sindoor, targeting nine terror camps in Pakistan and PoK. The raids have raised serious concerns of an escalation of conflict between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.

Trump, speaking to reporters, labeled the situation "terrible" and emphasized his good relationship with both India and Pakistan. "I get along with both. I know both very well, and I want to see them work it out. I want to see them stop,"he told reporters. He also added that both nations had exchanged ''tit-for-tat" moves and hoped that the retaliation would stop soon.

The U.S. President also announced that he would be happy to help end the crisis. "If I can do anything to help, I will be there," he said.

Earlier during the day, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio echoed similar views, saying that he was closely following the developments and speaking to both Indian and Pakistani leadership to urge a peaceful solution.

While India maintains its innocence, Pakistan has condemned the attacks as "unprovoked aggression" and threatened retaliatory measures. The Indian government, however, asserts that the attacks were "focused, measured, and non-escalatory," striking at terrorist targets without attacking Pakistani military targets.
