Pakistan Elections 2024: Internet Shutdown in Pakistan on 8th February?

Pakistan Elections 2024, Internet Shutdown News: Voting for Pakistan Parliamentary Election 2024 will be held in Pakistan on February 8, 2024. Meanwhile, many incidents of violence have come to light. 

In the meanwhile, Pakistan's Interior Minister Gohar Ejaz on Tuesday said the government may consider suspending internet services given the security situation in the country if it receives a request from any district or province. However, no such situation has emerged yet.

The minister said during a press conference in Islamabad along with Information Minister Murtaza Solangi. He said, “No decision has been taken yet regarding suspending internet services at any place.”

Possibility of Internet shutdown for peaceful elections:

A day earlier, Murtaza Solangi had ruled out the possibility of shutting down the internet on February 8, saying that the local administration had the right to decide on shutting down the internet in view of the law and order situation. According to the reports, he also stressed that no such situation has come to light so far. 

However, acting Balochistan Information Minister Jan Achakzai announced that the internet service will be temporarily restricted in sensitive polling stations in the province on election day. The Home Minister said that the government will provide security in three layers. According to a Geo News report, “Commandos will be deployed in Balochistan to respond in the shortest possible time.”

Talking about the law and order situation today, Gohar Ejaz said that the government is trying to conduct peaceful elections without any loss of life.
