Nepal Earthquake Latest News Today, Death Toll Above 50 in Tibet Earthquake: A powerful earthquake of magnitude 7.1 struck Tibet near the Nepalese border early Tuesday morning, leaving 53 people dead and 62 injured, according to Chinese state media Xinhua, as reported by AFP. The quake’s tremors were felt across several Indian states, including Bihar, Assam, and West Bengal.

The earthquake, which occurred at 6:35 am, was centered in Dingri County, part of Xigaze city in the Tibet Autonomous Region, and was initially reported as a 6.8-magnitude quake. The disaster caused widespread damage and left local authorities scrambling to respond to the aftermath.

Shortly after the first quake, two aftershocks were recorded: a 4.7-magnitude tremor at 7:02 am at a depth of 10 km, followed by a 4.9-magnitude tremor at 7:07 am at a depth of 30 km, according to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS).

Residents in Bihar reported feeling strong tremors, prompting many to evacuate buildings. Despite the significant impact, no damage to property or injuries were reported in the Indian states where the quake was felt.

Tibet and the surrounding Himalayan region are part of a geologically active zone where the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates meet. This area is prone to frequent seismic activity. In 2015, a devastating 7.8-magnitude earthquake in Nepal killed nearly 9,000 people and injured more than 22,000, underscoring the region’s vulnerability.

Rescue and relief efforts in the affected areas of Tibet are ongoing, with Chinese authorities mobilizing resources to assist those impacted.
