People are living with the effects of the post-Covid-19 situation: WHO Director General

WHO

The World Health Organization on Friday announced that the Covid-19 pandemic has now ended as a global health emergency. WHO Director General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus made the announcement while addressing a media briefing on Covid-19 and global health issues. He said, “With great anticipation, I announce the end of Covid-19 crises to the world. However, this will not mean that there will be no threat of Covid-19 on the world."

The WHO Director General said, "As we all know, thousands of people around the world are still fighting for their lives due to this pandemic and millions of people are living with the effects of the post-Covid-19 situation."

WHO declared Covid-19 a global emergency in January 2020. Tedros said, "On 30 January 2020, on the advice of the Emergency Committee convened under the International Health Regulations, I declared the global outbreak of Covid-19 an emergency."

He added, "In the 3 years since then, Covid-19 has turned our world upside down. About 7 million deaths have been reported to the WHO, but we know that the death toll is many times higher than at least 20 million."
