Singh emphasized the urgent need for Parliament session to reconvene so that the government can implement a support package for workers affected by these tariffs. He highlighted the potential economic impact on Canadian businesses and workers, urging swift action to mitigate the adverse effects.

Jagmeet Singh Statement: Canadian, today we woke up to a trade War. A trade war that is unwanted unwarranted and illegal Canadians didn't want this and Trump isn't doing this for border security he's doing this because he wants power over us so the Canadians say this Trump will not win we will be united we will stand up and we will fight back but as we fight back we have to remember it's more important than ever to take care of one another other and so my promise to you is this

I will fight to protect those workers that are impacted by the tariffs by improving EI I won't only protect our jobs I will create more jobs in this country by building Canadian and for families worried about the cost of things going up at a time when they're already so high I'll fight to make life more affordable I know the times in front of us will be trying they'll be difficult but I believe in Canada I believe in Canadians and I know we'll get through this together

During a news conference on Parliament Hill, NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh criticized sharply U.S. President Donald Trump's move to impose a 25% tariff on Canadian products. Singh stressed the imperative necessity for Parliament to be called back to enable the government to roll out a support package for workers who are being hit by such tariffs. He pointed to a probable economic blow to Canadian companies and workers and called upon quick action to offset the negative effects.

Singh said, "Canadians, this morning we woke up to a trade war. A trade war that is not wanted, not warranted, and illegal. Canadians did not want this, and Trump is not doing this for border security; he's doing this because he wants control over us. So, to Canadians, I say this: Trump will not succeed.

We will be strong, we will stand up, and we will push back. But as we push back, we have to remember it's more important than ever to look after each other. My commitment to you is this: I will fight to protect those workers who are affected by the tariffs by strengthening Employment Insurance (EI).

I won't just defend our jobs; I will create new jobs in this country by making Canadian. For families concerned about the price of things going up at a time when they're already so high, I'll fight to make life more affordable. I know the times that lie ahead will be challenging and difficult, but I believe in Canada, I believe in Canadians, and I know we'll get through this together."

Singh's call to action is a package of supports for workers, a promise to build and purchase more Canadian goods, and a collective voice to condemn Trump's actions. He denounced the planned tax cuts for millionaires, saying that they would not benefit workers who are losing their jobs because of the tariffs. Singh also emphasized the necessity of enhancing EI measures and recalling Parliament to deal with the state of emergency.

Singh's fierce opposition to Trump's tariffs and his determination to defend Canadian workers demonstrate his commitment to standing up for Canadians' welfare at this difficult moment.
