Trump Hints at Elon Musk's Deportation: "we’ll have to take a look"
Trump on Elon Musk's Deportation: During an exchange with reporters on Tuesday morning, U.S. President Donald Trump suggested he may consider reviewing the immigration status of tech billionaire Elon Musk, according to a report by FOX 35 Orlando.
The remarks came as Trump was en route to Florida to visit a newly established immigration detention center in the Everglades. While boarding Air Force One from the White House, a reporter asked the President if he planned to deport Elon Musk.
“I don’t know, we’ll have to take a look,” Trump responded.
“We might have to put DOGE on Elon, you know.”
He then elaborated in his usual animated tone, “Do you know what DOGE is? DOGE is the monster that might have to go back and eat Elon,” before shifting the conversation to Tesla subsidies and electric vehicle mandates, the report stated.
Strained Relations After Political Fallout
Earlier this year, the two were allied, with Trump appointing Musk to head the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
However, the relationship has deteriorated in recent weeks after Musk publicly opposed Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill.
Musk warned that the legislation would “kill jobs” and “bog down industries”, and went so far as to declare that he would start a new political party if the bill becomes law.
The controversial bill passed the House and is now advancing through the Senate, with a deadline of July 4 for final approval.
Trump: “Without Subsidies, Elon Would Have to Head Back”
On July 1, Trump escalated his criticism of Musk in a post on Truth Social, saying, “Elon Musk knew, long before he so strongly Endorsed me for President, that I was strongly against the EV Mandate. It is ridiculous, and was always a major part of my campaign. Electric cars are fine, but not everyone should be forced to own one. Elon may get more subsidy than any human being in history, by far, and without subsidies, Elon would probably have to close up shop and head back home to South Africa. No more Rocket launches, Satellites, or Electric Car Production, and our Country would save a FORTUNE. Perhaps we should have DOGE take a good, hard, look at this? BIG MONEY TO BE SAVED!!!”
While it remains unclear whether Trump was speaking literally about deportation or using hyperbole to criticize Musk, the remarks have fueled further speculation about the fallout between the two high-profile figures.
