Rare Case of Pregnancy in Liver Instead of Uterus Reported in Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh

Rare Case of Pregnancy in Liver Latest news: In a rare and shocking medical case from Bulandshahr district of Uttar Pradesh, a 30-year-old woman was found to be pregnant — not in her uterus, but in her liver, India Today reported.

The woman had been experiencing persistent abdominal pain for the past two months and sought medical attention. An MRI scan conducted on July 22 revealed a 12-week-old foetus located in the right lobe of her liver. The diagnosis was confirmed by Dr. K.K. Gupta, the radiologist who examined her, according to the report.

The woman, a homemaker, already has two children. Her husband works at a private company.

Prior to the diagnosis, she had consulted multiple doctors and received treatment, but her symptoms did not improve. She was eventually referred to a private imaging center for an MRI, which uncovered the true cause of her pain.

According to Dr. Gupta cited in the report, no such case of liver pregnancy has been reported in India before. Globally, only 18 similar cases have been documented to date.

Dr. Gupta further explained that no such pregnancies can be carried beyond 14 weeks due to the severe risk they pos to the mother’s life. Surgical removal is typically advised to prevent life-threatening complications, the report said.

Following the discovery, the woman has been referred to the  All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi for advanced treatment and care.
