UP Congress Leader Haji Ikram Qureshi Under House Arrest Latest News: Uttar Pradesh police have placed Congress leader and former minister Haji Ikram Qureshi under house arrest, the leader himself told IANS.
Haji Ikram Qureshi was heading to Bijnor to meet the families of those injured and killed in a leopard attack, following orders from Congress state president Ajay Rai.
People who were to accompany him have also been placed under house arrest, Haji Ikram Qureshi told the news agency.
Criticizing the arrest, Haji Ikram Qureshi said, “There is no democracy left in the country now. Ever since the BJP government came to power, democracy has been murdered from that very day. The Constitution is being trampled upon.”
He stated that the Congress high command in Delhi, along with state president Ajay Rai, assigned him and his team to visit Bijnor, where the leopard incident occurred, to check on the injured and meet the families of those killed. The incident took place across six villages in Bijnor, which he was supposed to visit. However, he and his team were placed under house arrest and prevented from visiting the villages.
He added, “The BJP fears Congress.”
