Uttar Pradesh govt hospitals collapsing and no longer safe? Yogi failing? Here's what's Happening

The conditions of a hospital in India’s fourth-largest state, Uttar Pradesh, governed by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader, and under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi at the Centre for over a decade, are raising serious health concerns. Rats and even dogs are not simply found roaming inside wards, but have been found sleeping on beds meant for patients admitted to the hospital.

In a shocking case of carelessness, unhygienic conditions, and ignorance on the part of hospital authorities, a purported video has surfaced online showing three dogs sleeping comfortably on a bed inside a medical college ward in Gonda, Uttar Pradesh, while another dog roamed freely under the beds.

Patients with serious injuries to their bodies and some on glucose were seen admitted in the ward.

Torn beds, dusty walls, and cold wards are raising grave concerns for the safety and recovery of those admitted to the hospital and for those who will be admitted.

The Congress party has also shared the video, questioning, “Will BJP leaders-ministers get themselves or their families treated in this hospital?”

“OMG! To bring this state up to a reasonable living standard, I believe it might take the next 50 years. Until then, other states will have to bear the pain,” an X user wrote, expressing concerns.

Earlier, a dozen rats were seen roaming on the beds inside a ward in the same hospital. According to fact-checker Mohammed Zubair, it was the orthopaedic ward of Gonda Medical College.

The incidents have sparked widespread discussion online and concerns among citizens over the safety and reliability of government hospitals in the state, in a country that is emerging as the fourth-largest economy, surpassing Japan with a size of $4.18 trillion, and is set to overtake Germany to become the third-largest by 2030.

Deputy Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Brajesh Pathak, who is also the Health Minister of the state, is yet to comment on the condition of the hospital.

MP from Gonda and BJP leader Kirti Vardhan Singh, who was in Egypt at the time of the incident, has also not commented. Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda has not commented either.
