Uttar Pradesh Mines Collapse: In a tragic incident, a wall inside the Krishna Mines quarry in Billi Markundi village of Obra, Uttar Pradesh’s Sonbhadra district, collapsed on Saturday evening, killing one worker and leaving at least ten others feared trapped under the debris.
Among those missing are two brothers who worked at the quarry, one as a tractor operator and the other as a compressor operator, according to their father, Somnath.
Somnath, who is anxiously watching the rescue operation along with relatives of other trapped workers, told ANI, “Two of my sons are trapped. My three sons had come here to work. One was operating a tractor, the other a compressor, and the youngest was downhill, who is safe. It has been twenty-four hours and we have not received any information about them. What can I say… my mind is not working.”
Divisional Commissioner Rajesh Prakash said that teams from the NDRF and SDRF have been deployed and efforts are underway to complete the rescue operation as quickly as possible. “It is not possible to quote any figures at this time,” he added. The NDRF DIG and Commandant are also present at the site.
So far, one body has been recovered. The rescue operation continues.
According to eyewitnesses, the accident occurred when workers were drilling into the rock using heavy machinery. During the process, a portion of the rock reportedly cracked and collapsed, trapping several workers beneath massive boulders.
