Kanwar Yatra 2025: UP Govt Launches QR Code for Food Safety; Opposition slams Latest News: The Kanwar Yatra 2025 is set to begin on July 11, marking the start of the holy month of Sawan, and will continue until Shivratri on July 23, 2025.
Ahead of the Yatra, the Uttar Pradesh administration has divided the region into zones to ensure smooth traffic movement and effective crowd management.
Speaking to ANI, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Ajay Pal Sharma said, “The upcoming Kanwar Yatra will begin on July 11. In this regard, we have divided the area into three superzones and seven zones, which are further divided into sectors. Ensuring the safety of Kanwariyas and facilitating their smooth movement will be our priority. Traffic routes have been planned so that no one faces any inconvenience. Coordination is being established with other districts as well.”
To promote transparency and accountability at eateries, the UP Food and Logistics Department has launched a QR code feedback system at food stalls and dhabas along the Kanwar Yatra route. As part of the food safety drive, officials inspected several shops and eateries along the Faizabad Road in Lucknow.
However, the move drew sharp criticism from the opposition. Congress MP Imran Masood questioned the intent behind the initiative, stating, “Will they install QR codes for job opportunities as well? By installing QR codes during festivals, they are propagating hatred and dividing people. Unemployment is a big issue, but they don’t want to talk about it.”
Meanwhile, in Delhi, preparations are underway for a grand welcome of Kanwar Yatris.
Delhi Minister Kapil Mishra, while reviewing the Kanwar camps, said, “Around 2.5 crore Kanwar Yatris set out from Delhi, and lakhs more arrive in the city carrying Kanwars. There are grand preparations to welcome them. The Municipal Corporation is also working with us. This time, there will be a historic welcome with a grand entry gate. The Chief Minister has issued special instructions, and aid amounts are being directly deposited into the accounts of Kanwar committees.”
He added,“For the first time, electricity is being provided free of cost. A single-window clearance provision has also been introduced. Additionally, the government and municipal corporation have decided to close meat shops along the Kanwar route.”
The Kanwar Yatra is an annual pilgrimage during the monsoon month of Shravan (Sawan), during which devotees, known as Kanwariyas, collect holy Ganga water and carry it in decorated Kanwars to offer Jalabhishek to Lord Shiva at local temples. The Yatra begins with the onset of Sawan and concludes on Sawan Shivratri.
