Chandigarh: Britain’s Sikh MP on Saturday sought an independent inquiry into the role of the UK government in Operation Bluestar, an Indian Army action in 1984 to flush out terrorists from the Golden Temple.

Three held with 3 kg heroin in Ferozepur
Ferozepur: The Punjab Police has arrested three persons near here for allegedly smuggling heroin from Pakistan into the state and seized 3 kg of the contraband from them. Acting on a tip-off, the police arrested the accused -- Jagdish Singh (30), Swarn Singh, a resident of Rajo Ke village in Tarn Taran district, and Gurdev Singh, a resident of Rajatal village in Amritsar, last evening, Assistant Inspector General (counter intelligence wing) Narinder Pal Singh said today.
Two Sikh Americans killed in US
Washington: Two Sikh Americans have been killed in separate incidents in California, according to community organisations and media reports. Subag Singh, 68, was found dead in a canal after he went missing in the morning of June 23. His body had injuries. California law enforcement officials from Fresno county have said that they were trying to find out who was responsible for the killing of the elderly Sikh American.

Punjab becomes first state to sign MoU with a global diagnostic firm to fight hepatitis C
Chandigarh: Punjab has become the first state in the country to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a global diagnostic firm, FIND, to help it diagnose and then properly treat hepatitis C. Health minister Brahm Mohindra was present when the agreement was signed at a function to mark the World Hepatitis Day on Friday.
