Woman married four times, arrested for duping fifth in Punjab

We have seen the movies like Ruskin Bond’s iconic tale, ‘Susanna’s Seven Husbands’, which was made popular by the Priyanka Chopra movie ‘Saat Khoon Maaf’. The Punjabi film was also based on it namely ‘RSVP: Ronde Sare Vyah Picho’ in which a woman married men to rob them of their wealth.

Similar like this, a case had come in Punjab based on a woman if the allegations are true. Paramjit Kaur of Sangrur who had four husbands and had gotten engaged to the fifth, Pushpinder Dass, a resident of Loheakhera.

She was arrested on a complaint by Dass who alleged that she had defrauded him of money and gold after promising to take him abroad post the wedding.

This was not the first time, as per the FIR. Kaur targets the men who were widowed and wanted to remarry. After marriage, she took the money from her husband(s) on different pretexts, and left the house, never to return,” said William Jejji, deputy superintendent of police, Sunam.

With Dass, her engagement took place on August 7, and the next day she allegedly took Rs 50,000 from him, saying that her mother needed medical care. Later, she took 8 tola gold (80gm, worth Rs 2.4 lakh) and Rs 10 lakh from him, promising to take him abroad, police said. “At the time of her arrest, Rs 7 lakh and 7 tola gold were seized from her.”

Kaur has been booked under IPC sections 420 (cheating), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 120B (conspiracy) at the Longowal police station.

A man named Harwinder Singh alias Rimpy, from Sanghreri village of the district, was arrested too. He used to play an NRI from Canada in the con jobs, police said.
