Chandigarh: The voting for the election of President started in Punjab and Haryana assemblies on Monday morning. The lawmakers of Punjab and Haryana started coming to their assemblies in the morning to vote for the new President of India.
Meira Kumar, the presidential Congress of AICC and Ram Nath Kovind, the presidential candidate of BJP are facing each other. In Punjab, the ruling government of Congress party has 77 seats and the opposition led by AAP along with Bains brother’s alliance has 22 seats. Punjab assembly has total 117 seats.
However, SAD has only 18 seats in the assembly. So, it is evident that the maximum votes of Punjab lawmakers would be sided with the Congress candidate Meira Kumar. Even the AAP fraction may go for the Congress candidate silently.
In Haryana, the ruling goverment of BJP has 47 seats so the position of Kovind is strong in Haryana as compare to Meira Kumar as Haryana assembly has total 90 seats.
