Ludhiana: The State Election Commission (SEC), Punjab, today declared the schedule for elections to the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation and bypolls to 26 wards of various municipals councils and nagar panchayats. The schedule for elections to a ward of the Moga Municipal Corporation was also declared.
District Electoral Officer (DEO)-cum-Deputy Commissioner, Ludhiana, Pradeep Kumar Agrawal said that the nomination filing process with regard to these elections would commence on February 8 till February 13. He said that the nomination papers would be scrutinised on February 15.
The date of withdrawing the nominations would be February 16 and on the same day, election symbols would be allotted. The polling would be held on February 24, he said. The counting of the votes for the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation would start on February 27 and for the bypolls immediately after the completion of election process on February 24.
In the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation area, around 10.50 lakh voters would exercise their franchise to elect their representatives from 95 wards. The voting for ward Number-17 in Jagraon Municipal Council and Ward Number-5 in Payal Municipal Council would also be held, DEO informed. He also said that the model code of conduct in the areas falling under the jurisdiction of municipal corporations and councils concerned has come into effect.
