Panchkula court sends Honeypreet to six day police remand

News, Punjab

The Panchkula court sent Honeypreet to six-day police remand today. Police had sought a 14-day remand to interrogate her and establish a connection between Honeypreet and the violence in Panchkula following Dera Sacha Sauda head Gurmeet Ram Rahim’s rape conviction.

Honeypreet arrived at the Panchkula court complex in the afternoon and was accompanied by Sukhdeep Kaur, who was arrested yesterday along with her on Tuesday. Both the women kept their faces covered.

Panchkula Police produced Honeypreet Insan, the adopted daughter of rape convict Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, in a local court today afternoon, a day after she was arrested from a highway in Punjab more than a month after she went into hiding.

Police commissioner AS Chawla said they will seek the maximum remand for Honeypreet as her custody is vital to interrogate her role in the violence in which at least 41 people were killed on August 25 after the dera chief was sentenced to 20 years in jail.
